The Ponty Tavern, on Cornmarket, confirmed yesterday that a member of staff had tested positive for the disease.

After developing symptoms on Wednesday night, the member of staff went into isolation. They were then tested on Thursday and received the positive result on Saturday morning.

After communicating with Environmental Health and the Environmental Protection Team, the pub were advised that, as the member of staff had not been on the premises for 48 hours prior to his symptoms, they would be safe to open once a deep clean was conducted.

A Pontefract pub has temporarily closed to customers after two members of staff tested positive for Covid-19.

However, shortly after 10pm last night, it was confirmed that a second member of staff had tested positive.

In a Facebook post, the Ponty Tavern said: "We have now had a second member of staff test positive. We will be closed until further notice.

"We are awaiting advice from Public Health England as to what procedures we need to follow before it’s safe for us to re-open.

"You're all aware we have the correct track and trace in place.

"If anybody was in the establishment this Friday between the hours of 8pm and 2am await contact from track and trace with regards to the matter or book a test if your displaying symptoms and if you where in the premises between these hours as that is the only shift this member of staff worked."
