Wakefield school confirms case of Covid-19 as pupils sent home

A Wakefield secondary school has sent pupils home to self-isolate for two weeks after a student tested positive for Covid-19.

In a letter to parents yesterday (Tuesday, September 22), Kettlethorpe High School said they had been advised by Public Health England of a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.

A "small number" of children who have been in contact with the affected student will now be asked to stay home for 14 days as a precautionary measure.

Headteacher Tudor Griffiths said: "We know that you may find this concerning and we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

"The small number of children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case will have received an individual letter and will be staying at home for 14 days.

"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend if they remain well."

In the letter, the school reminded parents that if their child develops symptoms, they should remain home for at least 10 days. All other household members, including those in a support bubble, should remain home for at least 14 days.

Household members should avoid going to work, school or public areas within this period.
