The Glynn Residential Home, on Bradford Road in Wrenthorpe, was rated inadequate by the care regulator last year after inspectors made several criticisms of the service.

A report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) said that medicines were not being administered safely and that no "adequate investigations" were carried out after accidents.

The home's manager of 37 years later defended the venue and said the CQC findings were being challenged.

However, The Glynn is now in the process of shutting down, after the watchdog said they'd failed to comply with an action notice they'd issued.

The home's 16 elderly residents are now being moved into homes elsewhere.

A CQC spokesman said: "We are aware that The Glynn Residential Home, Wakefield, is closing and have been in regular conversation with the provider and commissioners of the service since our inspection.

"At all times, CQC’s priority is the safe care and welfare of the home’s residents who are being supported to transfer to other services by its staff in conjunction with the local authority and we continue to monitor the home until it closes, which is expected to be by mid-February."

The venue suffered a Covid outbreak just before Christmas.

Nichola Esmond, the council's service manager for older people, said: "We have been working closely with The Glynn private care home, and partners since being notified last year of their intention to close.

"Our priority, as ever, is the welfare of residents and providing support to them and their families, through the transition.

"We have found alternative accommodation for all 16 residents, the majority of whom have now moved out, and where possible, have supported friends to move to the same new home so that these bonds can be maintained.”
