Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust staff say they are bullied and stressed

Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust has been ranked as worst in the country on whether staff would recommend the organisation as a place to receive treatment.

A report out today highlights widespread stress and bullying at the Trust, which runs Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury Hospitals, placing it in the lowest 20 per cent of NHS trusts for staff satisfaction and motivation.

The National NHS Staff Survey found that 44 per cent of Mid Yorkshire staff had suffered from work-related stress in the past 12 months, and that more than a quarter - 27 per cent - had experienced “harassment, bullying or abuse” from colleagues.

The Trust was worst in the country when staff were asked if they would recommend its services if they or a family member needed care.

Mid Yorkshire has promised to act on the findings of the report.

Chief executive Stephen Eames said: “Clearly these results are disappointing. Our staff work really hard to provide a good service and deserve to feel positive about their experience of coming to work.”

Mid Yorkshire said it carried out its own surveys, which showed that 83 per cent of staff were happy with the standard of care provided in the department they worked in.

Mr Eames said wards were running with safe staffing levels, but added that £1m was being invested in the recruitment of more nurses at the Trust.
