This year it has a theme of ‘mental health for all’.

The pandemic has brought many challenges for lots of people and many might be struggling with their mental health and wellbeing for the first time. #

It is expected that the need for mental health and social support will substantially increase in the coming months and years.

Coun Faith Heptinstall, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing, said: “The pandemic has been a really difficult and scary time for everyone but if you are struggling with your mental health, please do not suffer alone, help is out there.

“Mental health conditions are incredibly common but can be invisible to others - even though they affect one in four people of all ages, backgrounds and religions, so please be kind.”

Coun Jessica Carrington, Wakefield Council’s Mental Health Champion, said: “Although there’s growing awareness of these conditions, World Mental Health Day provides an opportunity to focus and highlight our determination to tackle stigma, and promote fairness, openness and understanding to everyone who experiences this type of ill health.”
