Fascinating rare video footage shows Ossett in 1960s

In the late 1960s Swedish man Uno Bersweden visited his family in Ossett.

He brought with him a cine camera which he used to capture scenes of the area at is was over 50 years ago.

This rare clip of Ossett is fascinating.

The much missed Ossett Station is shown just before demolition with the tracks pulled up.

The centre of town is filmed a few short years before it was made into a precinct and the buildings are black from years of industrial pollution.

Shortly after this film was taken many of them were either pulled down or sandblasted to remove the decades of grime.

Memories of J. Hampshire Nettleton’s bakery and Smith Cleaners are still fresh in many people’s minds.
