Haribo set to sponsor Pontefract Liquorice Festival

Pontefract sweets manufacturer Haribo will sponsor the town’s liquorice festival this year.

The festival starts at 10am on July 14 when there will be a host of different performances and activities filling the streets of Pontefract.

Jon Hughes, Managing Director of Haribo UK and Ireland said: “We’re delighted to be sponsoring such a highly anticipated event for the community here in Pontefract.

The liquorice parade will be led by Haribo’s Goldbear, and feature a cast of vibrant costumes, inspired by some of the company’s favourites, as well as other liquorice classics.

Coun Michelle Collins, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “We can’t wait for the return of Pontefract Liquorice Festival next month and we’re delighted that Haribo are on board as our head sponsor.

“There’s lots of fun planned for the festival as we celebrate Pontefract’s unique association with liquorice, including the return of the much-loved parade.

“It’s a really great day out for all the family to enjoy as part of the Our Year – Wakefield District 2024 celebration of our culture and heritage.”

There will be more than 50 stalls, visitors can sample and purchase a variety of local and regional products.

Traders will sell everything from fine gins, cheeses, chutneys and pastries, to baked goods, candy and ales.

There will be a park and ride at Pontefract Racecourse, for easy access to the festivities.
