In the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics, the Olympic flame was carried through more than 1,000 towns and cities across the UK. Thousands of people, including community heroes and local celebrities, were invited to help carry the torch for a section of it's 8,000 mile journey. The torch procession, which passed through Morley, Batley, Dewsbury, Wakefield, Castleford, Pontefract and Ackworth, was on its 38th day.

In total, the Olympic torch procession passed through more than 1,000 towns and cities, travelling 8,000 miles before arriving in the Olympic Park on July 27, 2012.
