Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle this morning, Buckingham Palace has announced. You can see the full statement here.

In July 2002, Prince Philip visited the National Coal Mining Museum in Overton. He is seen here brushing back his hair after removing a miner's hat and lamp he had worn while down a mine shaft.

Prince Philip was a fan of horses, and is credited with helping to develop the sport of carriage driving. He was also an avid polo player for much of his life.
