The National Trust will re-open the parkland and car park at one of their Yorkshire sites this week.

Limited parking will be available at Nostell Priory, near Wakefield, from May 21, but spaces must be booked in advance and capacity has already been reached for the first day of re-opening.

Nostell has been chosen as the first National Trust site in Yorkshire to tentatively welcome visitors again because it has a large expanse of open parkland that can be accessed without having to pass through indoor areas.

The charity is currently assessing the feasibility of opening other sites with large outdoor spaces, such as Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden, Hardcastle Crags, Rievaulx Terrace and Wentworth Castle Gardens.

Properties such as Nunnington Hall, Mount Grace Priory, Braithwaite Hall, Beningbrough Hall, East Riddlesden Hall, Treasurer's House and Goddards House in York and Maister House in Hull will take longer to re-open as social distancing restrictions will need to be put in place in indoor spaces.

The National Trust car park at Roseberry Topping also remains shut, as does the Bridestones, Crosscliff and Blakey Topping nature reserve near Pickering.
