Mollie Spencer, 9, from Wrenthorpe, was touched by this year's Remembrance Day commemorations in memory of those who gave their lives to serve their country.

She decided wanted to raise awareness for those affected by the pandemic in a similar way to the way we remember our fallen soldiers.

So Mollie got to work designing a badge for people to wear in appreciation for those affected by coronavirus, including NHS staff, lockdown hardships and those who have fallen ill.

She asked her Mum, Sarah, to help her send a letter to Downing Street, including her badge design.

Mum Sarah said: “When Mollie came to me about the idea of a badge, I thought it was amazing, I helped her write the letter to Boris Johnson, explaining her idea.

“She designed it on a piece of cardboard all by herself and I managed to get them made into 150 badges for her to sell and raise money for the NHS.

“We only just got the badges a couple weeks ago and she’s already raised over £200 on a JustGiving page.

“She’s going to be selling them at her school to her classmates at school to help make them aware of the struggles COVID has brought.”

Mollie’s badges are available to buy, by heading over to her JustGiving page and making a donation - then emailing Mollie’s mum to alert her of the donation, so she can then send the badge via post.

Sarah said: “It’s all Mollie’s idea, she keeps saying that she just wants to make people aware.

“I just think she’s so amazing, that she thought of this heartfelt idea - we don’t often think about how people have been affected.

“She's such a kind caring little girl, we’re so super proud of her.”

Mollie said: "Thank you to everyone that has already donated and bought my badge to help me raise money for the NHS, I am hoping to sell more so I can raise £1000."
