The young musician who attends Crofton Academy, took to drumming to honour his late uncle, Anthony Oxley, who was a Drum Major in the Yorkshire Regiment.

Sharon, Alex’s mum, said: “Running up to the invitation, Alex has been continuing to follow the Crooner Sessions.

“He’s been drumming since he was six years old and his drum teacher, Mike Paley, has taught him to be so versatile - he’s so supportive of Alex and pushes him to be the best he can be.

“Alex has been learning a lot of Take That tracks off his own back, I’m a massive fan so he’s grown up around it.

Gary Barlow began the Crooner Sessions series in the first lockdown of 2020, in which he invited stars, among the likes of Boy George, Steps and Rod Steward, to duet with him virtually.

In April of 2020, young Alex made his first appearance on the Crooner Sessions to join Gary in a rendition of the singer's solo single from 2013, 'Let Me Go'.

Since then, Alex’s drum covers have received praise and recognition from some of his other favourite celebrities, including TV presenters Ant and Dec and Gary Barlow’s bandmate, Mark Owen.

Mum Sharon said: “Alex is really proud and honoured to get the recognition from all these stars he idolises.

“It just inspires him so much, especially when he gets a special mention on Gary’s Instagram and Twitter when he uploads a drumming video.

“Gary’s fans really love him, he’s gotten so much praise in the comments for his Crooning Session appearance.

“Our dream is to meet Gary Barlow himself and thank him for all the support he has given to Alex - hopefully it will happen this year if the concerts don’t get put back again!”
