Karen Wright: Family time before our road trip to Spain

My autumn trip away to Spain began with a few days in Brighton, an opportunity to break the journey to the ferry port at Portsmouth and catch up with our daughter and grandchildren.

It also gave us a few days to reset and make sure everything was functioning well with the car and caravan. As members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club we stay at the Brighton club site, which is in a perfect location to get into the hurley burley of town or to venture inland for some peace, quiet and fresh air.

We had a fantastic day with the family. We did very simple things: a walk in the woods where the children scampered about hunting for bugs, catching the falling leaves and even hitching a ride on two passing horses.

We came back to the park that’s next to the campsite and treated ourselves to a spot of lunch. We even managed to eat outside which is good going for October. Then we came back to our caravan and relaxed, well apart from my little grandson who managed to ride his bike unaided for the first time.! We were all thrilled, it happened almost out of the blue.

Our magical day was all too soon over and we said goodbye to our daughter who had to return to work that evening. She is on the costume making team for the TV show The Masked Singer and it was filming time so she had to return to the studios. We did manage another visit to see the children though, we met them from school on the Monday and walked back with them to their home and enjoyed having tea with them.

We said our goodbyes and started to re pack our caravan and organise ourselves for the thirty six hour crossing from Portsmouth to Bilbao. I have never toured in Spain so there is a little bit of nerves and much excitement at the prospect. We will be away for two weeks so I will be writing my next few columns from somewhere in Spain. Wish me luck, I don’t speak the lingo either so anything could happen!

Hasta la vista
