However, while the average house price in England, according to the latest statistics available, the UK House Price Index for November 2020, is £266,742, properties in Castleford had an average selling price of just £153,353 in 2020. It was only slightly higher in Pontefract, at £175,638.
The average price in Wakefield borough in November was £158,239, a 4.5 per cent increase on November 2019, when the average price was £151,432.
Property website Rightmove said the majority of sales in Castleford during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £143,869. Terrace properties sold for an average of £114,892, with detached properties fetching £240,605.
Overall, sold prices in Castleford over the last year were 5 per cent down on the previous year and similar to the 2018 peak of £152,601.
Rightmove said the majority of sales in Pontefract during 2020 were semi-detached homes, selling for an average price of £158,903. Detached properties sold for an average of £247,132, with terraces fetching £130,967.
Overall, sold prices in Pontefract over the last year were 1 per cent down on the previous year and 2 per cent down on the 2017 peak of £179,158.
