On those long summer evenings, wouldn’t it be great to have your own outdoor bar or party room for barbecues and nights with friends? How about making the commute to your own office to the bottom of the garden, or your own private workout area, yoga room, craft room or simply a cosy hideaway to call your own? Make Room Outside Living, in Wakefield has a world of ideas for you to explore.

You can view them all and chat to the experts with no obligation, seven days a week, at Carr Gate Garden Centre, Bradford Road, Carr Gate, Wakefield. WF2 0SY , just off Junction 41 on the M1.

We caught up with Patrick McDowall, general manager of Make Room Outside Living, to ask him more about their garden rooms and find out why they are becoming so popular and to get the lowdown on having one of your own.

Why are garden rooms so popular?

Cultural shifts to more working and entertaining at home have resulted in a desire for more internal space – but that’s not always a possibility. Space in your existing home and the cost of a full extension can be prohibitive.

These garden rooms are an affordable solution for growing families and expanding businesses – custom-built modular garden rooms to suit almost every budget, delivered and installed within weeks.

They add value to your home and are designed to fall within permitted development criteria – meaning over 90 per cent of the time they don’t need planning permission.

What can you use them for?

From a simple one desk office to a hair salon, cinema room, gym, bar or annexe, the only limit is your imagination! Our show site has lots of inspiration for you.

The contemporary design gives someone a feature for their garden as well as a functional space. But rather than offering a specific set of defined models we allow our customers the flexibility to design something unique to them. We understand everyone’s space, requirements and tastes are different.

Patrick said: “Every space is different – every budget too. That’s why we offer a full spectrum of modular garden buildings as well as individual options to cater for different needs.”

There’s even a 3D configurator, which the garden room designer will use to help you visualise what your new space will look like.

Do I need planning permission?

There’s generally no requirement for planning permission as our buildings are designed to fall within permitted development criteria. We are also generally quicker and cheaper than a traditional extension.

What will it cost me?

A garden room big enough to be a single desk office would be around £12,500 fully installed. Our garden rooms are fully insulated and manufactured for longevity as well as practicality. They come complete with heating, electrics and we offer a fully installed service as well as a supply only option for keen DIY’ers.

The company is totally transparent on all costs, so you know exactly what the price will be before you commit to buy.

Where can I see them?

We have created our show site to be a destination for anyone thinking of a garden room. Rather than looking at pictures on the internet people have the opportunity to touch, feel and see our products in person. We have themed all of our rooms to give inspiration and show what can be achieved using our system.

We encourage people to pay us a visit at our Carr Gate show site – that’s at Carr Gate Garden Centre, Bradford Road, Carr Gate, Wakefield. WF2 0SY. We are open seven days a week and the team are always on hand to have a no obligation chat about what we do.

How long does it take to build one?

Our modular manufacturing process allows for short lead times and a quick installation process. We can have a garden room installed in as little as 6 weeks from point of order.

Do you have other outdoor products?

As well as our garden rooms we have a range of additional outdoor living products from traditional wooden gazeebos to premium greenhouses and outdoor kitchen equipment.
