Appeal after burglars ransack pensioner's home

Police are appealing for information following a burglary at the home of a Thorpe pensioner in which a number of items of sentimental jewellery were stolen.

The offence happened sometime between 9.30am and 1pm on Thursday April 21 at a property in Longthorpe Lane, Thorpe.

Detective Constable Charles Maloney, of Leeds District CID, said: “The person or people responsible for this burglary have ransacked the 70-year-old victim’s home and stolen a number of items of jewellery which are of great sentimental value to her, having belonged to her mother.

“This offence has happened on a busy road during the day and we are hopeful that someone will have seen something that could assist us in our ongoing enquiries.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who has been offered vintage or antique jewellery for sale in suspicious circumstances. Among the items stolen were a ring with an emerald in the middle and three opals around the edge, a sovereign on a chain, a Tissott watch and a gold, square-faced Ramond Weil Othello watch with leather strap.
