BBC TV presenter to open West Bretton Scarecrow Festival

BBC Look North’s Amy Garcia will open West Bretton Scarecrow Festival tomorrow (Saturday).

The Wakefield-born broadcaster will get the festivities underway at 11am on June 20.

From 11am to 5pm the village hall, on Bretton Lane, will open its doors for a traditional family day.

Admission is free and any proceeds will go towards the Wakefield Hospice and village hall renovations.

Residents young and old are putting the final touches to their scarecrows in advance of tomorrow’s first Scarecrow Festival in West Bretton.

The village, local community groups and businesses have come together to create more than 40 scarecrows which will be seen all around the village as part of a special trail.

There will also be a gala, children’s entertainment and activities throughout they day.

Event organiser Sarah Fozzard said: “The festival on Saturday is a culmination of months of preparation, and despite the previous setbacks which have been many, including the theft of our painted scarecrow signs, we are so excited and ready to welcome visitors to our very special event.”
