Emergency services were called yesterday evening to the area following reports of a concern for the safety of a man.

Teams entered the River Calder after reports of a man seen to be getting into difficulties after entering the water.

A West Yorkshrie Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 6.44pm yesterday evening to the River Calder in Wakefield following reports of a concern for safety.

"A man, believed to be in his 30s, is thought to have entered the water before getting into difficulties.

"Police search teams later recovered the body of a man.

The incident is not being treating as suspicious."
