Burglars steal Second World War medals

Second World War medals belonging to a soldier who served with the 8th Army have been stolen.

Burglars took the medals from a house at Winden Close in Calder Grove Wakefield, between March 11 and 12.

They took four war medals that belonged to the late father of a 69-year-old woman.

He had been awarded the medals for his service to the military during wartime and one was an African Star, with an 8th Army bar across it.

The burglars also stole the woman’s engagement ring.

Detective Constable Helen Robinson, of Wakefield CID, said: “The medals were of great sentimental value to the victim as well as her engagement ring and are completely irreplaceable.

“They are distinctive items and would stand out if they were being offered for sale.

“I would like to hear from anyone who has any information that could assist with our investigation.”
