Castleford Tigers boss looking for consistency now after team shows what it can do at Wigan

After their brilliant win at Wigan now comes a task Castleford Tigers have found tricky this season as they look to back it up in their next game.

The Tigers take on Hull FC at the OneBore Stadium on Friday night with the aim of making it back to back Super League victories for the first time under head coach Ryan Carr.

Previous wins over Huddersfield and Bradford were followed by losses – admittedly against the current top two in Super League, Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity. On the flip side the Tigers’ heaviest two defeats have been followed by wins in the very next match so they have an ability to respond.

The lack of consistency has frustrated Carr, but he liked what he saw from his players at Wigan regardless of what the result would have been.

He said: “I am really pleased for my players, they are working really hard.

"Our preparation hasn’t changed from week one to week eight. We’ve trained just as hard, we’ve had just as good attention to detail. Everything’s been the same, what hasn’t been the same is our consistency in our performance within the 80 minutes.

"I knew I had that team out there and I’m just happy they got to show everyone that that’s where we are.

"We’re figuring a lot out as we go as a new group and sometimes you have to get punched in the face to realise what’s going wrong and figure out how we get ourselves in the best place to play well.

"This was just a group of players who were willing to be that desperate for each other that no matter what they weren’t going to let the result go against us. That was what pleased me so much.”

Carr added: “This season is a journey for us and we are going to continue to build, but for me now it’s about the consistency of backing up a good performance with another good one on Friday.

“Fingers crossed we can start to get some consistency in our playing group and let the boys develop as we go as opposed to chopping and changing all the time.”
