Two men carried out the scam on an ATM machine on Kirkgate between Tuesday, August 25 and Wednesday, August 26.

They attached a device to the cashpoint which allowed customers to use it but it then kept their card and cash which the thieves then stole.

PCSO Dickson, of the Wakefield Central neighbourhood police team (NPT), said: “We are continuing to investigate this offence and would like to speak to anyone who can help us identify these two men.

“We would also always advise residents using cash points to stand close to the machine and shield their keypad with their free hand to stop anyone seeing or filming you enter your pin code, to help prevent this type of fraud.

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Wakefield NPT on 101 and quote log number 13150345655.”
