City to hold one minute's silence in memory of victims of Orlando shooting

The city will hold one minutes silence this morning to show support for those affected by the weekend's tragic events in Orlando, USA where 50 people were killed and many more were injured.

The silence, led by Coun Peter Box CBE, will be held at the start of today’s cabinet meeting at 10.30am in Wakefield Town Hall.

Tonight, the town hall clock will be lit in rainbow colours in a show of solidarity for those who died and for their loved ones.

Coun Box said: “People in the Wakefield district, and across the world, have been deeply moved by this appalling act of violence.

“We believe in tolerance and peace in our district and it is very important that we continue to express and live by these essential values which bring communities and individuals together.”
