Cricket to mark Becci’s memory

Stars from television documentary Educating Yorkshire will don their cricket whites next weekend to raise money for charity.

Teachers from the Channel 4 show will take part in the fifth annual cricket match to raise money in memory of Becci Marley, who died of cystic fibrosis in 2009.

The game will be held at Ackworth Cricket Club on Sunday, June 29 and will raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Jonny Mitchell, headteacher of Thornhill Academy where the documentary was filmed, will be taking part in the event.

Becci’s mum Sue, who has organised the match, said: “The match gives us the opportunity to keep Becci’s memory alive and also raises money for cystic fibrosis, something we are very passionate about.

“Losing a child really is the worst think to happen to a parent.

“Even though it’s hard knowing that Becci won’t benefit from a cure, we know that she will be proud that we are trying to help other families.”

Last year’s event raised more than £4,000 for the charity, which looks into finding better treatments.

Pat Kilpatrick, fundraising manager for the trust, said: “We’re very grateful to Sue Marley and her family and friends who work so hard each year to make the event so successful.”
