The woman was captured on CCTV after leaving a Wakefield pub at 2am, the local council said.

Footage from the cameras also "helped prove" she had driven the car, according to a report on the incident.

She was detained by police after failing a roadside breath test.

The woman was arrested on January 10 earlier this year, though the incident has only just come to light in the report, written by the council's portfolio holder for communities.

Councillor Maureen Cummings said: "One of the things operators look for at night is drink drivers as they leave the pub and head to cars.

"On this occasion two females were walking towards a parked car in Wakefield, close to the pubs at 2am.

"Part of the skill of the operator is to decide whether the driver is drunk and whether to call the police.

"On this occasion the female driver made it obvious when she laid on the floor at the back of her car prior to attempting to drive off.

"Police in the district control room were watching the footage and took the decision to send someone out.

"The female was arrested just after she had set off.

"CCTV footage helped prove that she had driven the car as opposed to just being sat in it. She was arrested after failing a roadside test."
