Man in court over crash that left toddler hospitalised

A man has been sent for trial over a car smash which has left a toddler hospitalised.

Daniel Leigh Thrower, 34, was accused of causing serious injury to John James Michalowski, then 23 months, by dangerous driving following a two-car collision on the A628 Hemsworth bypass in March.

Thrower is also charged with aggravated vehicle taking on the day of the incident, March 8.

He is also accused of failing to provide a specimen for analysis, no insurance and no appropriate licence.

But Thrower did not enter a plea when he appeared at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court this afternoon (Thursday).

Magistrate Christopher Sparkes said the case should be transferred to Leeds Crown Court.

Thrower, of Shakespeare Avenue, Doncaster, was granted unconditional bail to face a preliminary hearing in Leeds on August 14.
