During interview he told the police that he had nowhere else to go after an argument with his partner, and that "felt stupid" for breaking in.

He admitted a charge of possessing a bladed article, but a charge of going equipped for burglary was dropped.

Mitigating, Craig Sutcliffe told the court that he suffers from cancer which has left him blind in one eye, and has battled heroin addiction over the years.

Moore, of Princess Avenue, South Kirkby, has 33 previous convictions for 89 offences dating back to 1995.

He was jailed for 146 days.
