VIDEO - Police car chase through Wakefield

Police chased a suspected stolen car through the city centre this morning.

The black Toyota was pursued through Normanton and on to the M62 before it was finally brought to a stop near Tingley.

Officers attempted to stop the driver at around 11.20am this morning on Kirkgate.

But he ignored them and drove up Marsh Way to the back of Wakefield House office block close to Trinity Walk.

Eye witness Jonah Wildwood, 31, said: “The driver started revving his engine really loudly and then climbed out of the sun roof.

“He smoked a cigarette sitting on the roof of the car. He got back in and sped off but returned a few minutes later.

“Then the police arrived and chased after him.”

Police brought the car to a stop between junctions 28 and 29 on the westbound carriage way of the M62 at around 11.30am.

The driver was arrested and the vehicle was seized.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said no-one was injured in the incident.
