Visiting the scene, a reporter for the Express said police had taped off a number of houses, including one with what appeared to be a bullet hole in the front door.

Detective Inspector Sarah Burton of West Yorkshire’s Firearms Prevent Team said: "Our investigation is at an early stage but we believe this has been a targeted attack.

"This incident will understandably cause concern in the local community and there are increased high visibility patrols in the area to offer reassurance.

"The discharge of any firearm is extremely serious and extensive enquiries are underway to find all of those responsible.
