Woman kept in custody over Westgate horror crash

A woman who was arrested following the city-centre crash at the weekend has been remanded into custody.

Karolina Serafin, of Tenby Grove, Worksop was charged on Monday with three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court yesterday morning.

No pleas were entered and the case has been sent to Leeds Crown Court where she will appear on August 10. No bail was granted.

The 24-year-old was taken in by police following the smash on Westgate, next to the Black Horse pub, that left three people injured, including a serving police officer.

It happened at 1.24am on Sunday and involved a Renault Megane and a police van.

Two men, including the police officer, were seriously injured while a woman was left in a critical condition.

Westgate was cordoned off for much of Sunday.

Meanwhile, police still want to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to witnesses who helped remove the driver of the vehicle and a taxi driver who was thought to be in the area at the time.
