People will have a chance to take their antiques down for an expert valuation and either take money on the spot from one of the show’s dealers or take a gamble by going to auction.

The visit to the city is part of a country-wide tour looking for some of the nation’s best antiques.

Mr Dickinson said: “I’m very much looking forward to visiting Wakefield, an area of the country I love bringing the show to. I remember visiting the area several years ago; the items brought in were fantastic - great quality - with fabulous history and stories attached.”

Dickinson’s Real Deal, now in its 12th series, is currently one of the most popular daytime shows on ITV and is regularly watched by more than a million people.

Last time the show was in the area, one visitor walked away with £280 for his jug, another’s gamble paid off with a broach reaching £230 at auction and the third person left the dealer’s table with an amazing £1,050 for her charm bracelets.

The ITV show will be at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School from 9am to 5pm on Saturday, September 5.

Mr Dickinson will be there keeping an eye on the deals and giving advice about whether to take the dealers’ cash or gamble at auction.

Visitors should bring their antiques and collectables along to the Northgate school, where a team of independent valuers will be offering free advice on all items brought along on the day. Admission is free and you do not need to book a place or a ticket.
