Disabled man left housebound after thieves steal his wheelchair

Thieves took the wheelchair from outside a house on Upper Warrengate, in Wakefield sometime between 10am and 3pm on Monday.

It is the victim’s main form of transport.

And it was specially made for the 26-year-old who has cerebral palsy.

It is a metallic blue colour, made by Invacare and worth several hundred pounds.

Police have been carrying out house to house enquiries and officers are examining reports that a white van was seen in the area at the time of the theft.

PCSO Sarah Barberini, of the Wakefield NPT, said: “The chair is the victims primary means of getting about and it quite frankly beggars belief that someone would steal what is quite obviously a specialist chair for someone who needs to have use it.

“The victim’s mother has told me her son has been left housebound as a result of this vital piece of equipment being stolen.

“We are carrying out a number of enquiries into this incident and would like to speak to anyone who has information or is offered this wheelchair for sale.”

The metallic blue coloured chair was made by Invacare and is worth several hundred pounds.
