District bus operator Arriva scoops top award

Arriva Yorkshire, the district’s main bus operator, has won a national award.

The firm scooped the Bus Operator of the Year accolade the 2015 National Transport Awards.

Staff and firm bosses celebrated the award victory with an open-top bus ceremony in Wakefield yesterday (Wednesday).

The event was also attended by councillors and Coun June Cliffe MBE, the Mayor of Wakefield.

Nigel Featham, regional managing director for Arriva Yorkshire, said: “We’re delighted to have won this award. Our employees work tirelessly to provide the best possible service for our customers and it means so much for them to be recognised nationally. “We wanted to do something really special to mark this occasion and what better way than to welcome everyone aboard an open-top bus for a traditional home-coming celebration.”

It beat off competition from rival bus companies across the UK to win the award.

The awards, now running for the 15th year, recognise and promote excellence and best practice in national and local transport projects.
