Officers from Wakefield Rural neighbourhood police team responded to calls that a man was trying car door handles in the area.
They followed footsteps through the snow and arrested a man on suspicion of vehicle interference.
Writing on the NPT’s Facebook page, a spokesman said it was “an early candidate for easiest arrest of the year.”
A police spokesman said a 41-year-old man from the Wakefield area remains in police custody.
