A endless food and cocktail festival is coming to Wakefield in a car park hidden behind a bar

Fingers crossed we might have a big summer ahead of us and what better way to spend it than outside with a cocktail and a slice of pizza?

The team behind the Golden Pineapple on Wood Street and Velvet Bar on Market Street are about to unveil another venue.

Having created VHS rental shop and speakeasy bar RBT Video, on Northgate, Nathan Birkinshaw and Noel Roberts will be taking over the car park behind that venue to turn it into an outdoor eating and drinking space.

The hope is that some of the finest restaurants in the city will take turns selling their menu while a converted ice cream van will serve cocktails.

The team hopes the space – named Lot – will be a continuous food festival for the city.

Nathan said: “We want to approach restaurants to do outside catering and have a revolving food festival – maybe tacos on Friday and then ask Fino to do pizza.

“We don’t want it to be about us, we want it to have a community feel.”

Noel said: “It’s an extension of what we’ve seen in the United States – land over there is at premium so places become multi-use spaces. We have seen it done in Manchester, Leeds and London.”

Lot could also be used for outdoor cinema screenings with headphones, Nathan said.

The team are hoping their new place will be able to open from Friday, April 16.

Nathan said: “One good thing from Covid is thinking outside the box and the potential of what can and can’t be done.

“RBT having outside space is important because it feels like we have been indoors for 10 years.”

He was pleased to be able to get another venue off the ground during a challenging year.

He added: “The police and licensing authorities have been great with us. We’re making it Covid-secure, Wakefield Council have been wonderful and the landlords have been great.”Inside: Callum and Nathan at RBT Video
