Following a public consultation, in which residents welcomed the proposal, free short stay parking for two hours in most of the council’s car parks and country parks will be available from April 1 to March 31, 2022. On-street car parking will revert back to the previous charges.

Motorists are reminded to check signage for all parking tariffs, restrictions and conditions when they park.

It is hoped the two hours free parking will provide ongoing support for residents and businesses with the district’s economic recovery from Covid-19.

Glynn Humphries, Wakefield Council’s Corporate Director for Communities, Environment and Climate Change, said: “We had really positive feedback from our residents and local business during the public consultation and so I’m delighted that we have been able to offer two hours free parking across the district.

“It will help give local businesses a real boost to recover from the impact of Covid-19 and it will also support people’s physical and mental wellbeing, by encouraging people to continue their enjoyment of our fantastic country parks, particularly as lockdown restrictions start to ease.”
