The Eat Out to Help Out scheme was so successful that many restaurants have brought it back for September.

The government scheme meant people could save 50 per cent off their food bills in cafes, bars and restaurants throughout August.

Diners in Wakefield saved almost £1.6m, taking advantage of the deal 285,000 times through the month, saving an average of £5.57 per meal.

Many eateries have now decided to extened the scheme out of their own pockets to keep up momentum.
