Work complete on £700,000 revamp to Featherstone Sports Centre
Work is now complete on an impressive £700,000 makeover to revamp facilities at Featherstone Sports Centre.
The layout of the centre has been reconfigured, resulting in a new open plan gym space that is about three times the size of the previous one and contains a range of new equipment.
The reception area has also been upgraded, along with a new spinning studio.
Customers having assessments or taking part in fitness programmes with consultants will be able to use equipment provided in the spinning room, so that they are away from the main gym area.
There are also two new office rooms which will ensure that those customers having a private referral discussion can do so in private.
It is hoped these spaces will provide a much better customer experience.
Prior to lockdown, the football pitches behind the centre had been improved and there is now five-a-side 3G pitches available to hire at the site as well.
Coun Jacquie Speight, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “The improved facilities look absolutely fantastic and I’m really excited for our residents to come and use the refurbished sports centre once lockdown restrictions are lifted.
“It is more important than ever that people try to stay well and the Council’s leisure centres have a big part to play in this. That’s why we want to offer the best facilities possible and our investment in Featherstone demonstrates our commitment to encouraging a healthy Wakefield.
“I can’t wait for the centre to reopen so that residents can see and enjoy the impressive new facility.”
