Ex-MP Ed Balls and former Leeds United favourite Kammy serve up treats on The Great Sport Relief Bake Off

They went head-to-head against Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh and writer Victoria Coren Mitchell to compete in the charitable version of the nation’s favourite TV baking show.

Both men began their stint in the tent by making a batch of banana and raisin muffins. Ed, who bakes birthday cakes for his three children received high praise from Paul, who said his muffins were “pretty good”. But the judge was less complimentary to novice baker Chris, claiming his batch tasted “like paint”.

Both struggled with Paul’s technical challenge to make minced-beef ‘football pies’. But they redeemed themselves with their show-stopping four layered cakes.

Mary told Ed the flavour of his impressive ski-jump creation was “great” and she had high praise for Chris’ “beautifully baked” body boarding cake. But his attempt at making a figurine of himself on the body board received laughs all round and he later Tweeted: “I really can’t see what you found funny @PaulHollywood, was it the trunks?!”

Neither man did enough to clinch the star baker accolade, which went to Kimberley. But Ed said on Twitter: “We had such a good time doing it for a great cause.”
