Explosion causes 'significant damage' at Castleford house - everything we know so far
A Castleford house was badly damaged after an explosion and fire - this is everything we know so far.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed yesterday (Thursday) that they had been called to reports of a fire on Bryan Close, Castleford.
During the blaze, a large explosion was reported at the property, causing significant damage to the house.
Five crews were called to help tackle the blaze, and nearby homes were reportedly evacuated.
Smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles around, and photos from the scene show smoke-damaged walls and windows on the building.
A spokesperson for WYFRS said: "We were called at 13.27 to reports of a fire in a property on Bryan Close in Castleford.
"Five fire engines attended.
"Crews are still damping down with three fire engines still in attendance, plus an aerial ladder platform.
"An explosion occurred in the property causing significant damage."
In a tweet, Wakefield Council also warned people to avoid the area while they tackled the blaze."
