Fire at Oliver Twist confirmed as arson

Police have confirmed a fire which destroyed a former family pub is being treated as arson.

Firefighters were called to the Oliver Twist, in Notton, at around 7.10am on Sunday morning.

The fire was on the first floor of the building and caused the roof to collapse.

Insp Ian Williams, of the Rural Neighbourhood Police Team (NPT) said: “We are treating the fire at the pub as arson and investigations are ongoing.”

The pub, on the junction of Notton Lane and Bleakley Lane, closed in 2013.

Planning permission to turn the site into 15 new homes was given in October and demolition work was underway.
