Football pitches damaged after yobs torch car
Pitches off Queen’s Drive, Ossett, used by Thornes Juniors Football Club, have been ruined after cars, quad bikes and motorbikes were driven across them.
John Hinchliffe, club chairman, said they had just spent £3,000 relaying the pitches ready for the start of next season in September.

“We’ve just spent a lot of money on improving the pitches and the facilities ready for next season and it’s all completely ruined.”
The vandals have also damaged junior pitches used by youngsters starting at five-years-old.
Mr Hinchliffe said: “The kind of people that do this type of vandalism just don’t think about the consequences of it.

Insp Ian Williams, of Wakefield neighbourhood police team (NPT), appealed for anyone with any information to get in touch.
He said: “I was saddened to hear about this incident.
“It can only be described as mindless vandalism. This type of crime hurts the community not just the owner of the vehicle.
“I would appeal to anyone who has knowledge of this incident and of any other similar behaviour to contact us with names and we will take action against them through the courts.”
Anyone with any information should contact Wakefield NPT on 101.
