Four escape major house blaze

Four people escaped a major house fire in Havercroft yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).

Crews from South Kirby, Wakefield and Featherstone, plus an aerial platform from Leeds, were called to South Street at 4pm following reports of a caravan fire which had spread to a neighbouring house.

On arrival, crews found 90 per cent of the property involved in the fire.

The occupants managed to escape from the house and were taken to Pinderfields Hospital where they received treatment for smoke inhalation.

Crews used six breathing appartus, two large jets, four hose reels and high-powered fan to clear the building.

It is thought the fire was caused by a faulty cooker in the caravan.

Crews left at approximately 7pm.
