Further protest planned over pool closures

Protestors are to hold a further rally this evening against plans to close Castleford and Knottingley's swimming pools.

Wakefield Council are considering shutting the much-used facilities, saying swimmers can still head to Pontefract’s existing pool or Wakefield.

The council is looking to open a new £15m complex in Pontefract in the coming years.

Following a gathering outside Castleford’s Aketon Road last Thursday, people are set to gather outside Knottingley Leisure Centre on Hill Top tonight, Thursday, December 15 at 6pm.

Pontefract and Castleford MP, Yvette Cooper, will also be at the protest.
