Hard shoulder opened up as an extra lane on M62

Motorists will be able to use the hard shoulder of the M62 as an extra lane today (Monday).

Overhead message signs, between junctions 27, Gildersome, and junction 28, Leeds, will be set according to traffic conditions.

About 150,000 vehicles use the stretch of motorway daily and the Highways Agency says that the managed motorway scheme will cut congestion.

Meanwhile the agency has announced details of planned works on the motorway as part of the ongoing roadworks between junction 25 Brighouse and junction 30 at Rothwell.

The entry slip road will be closed at junction 26 Chain Bar on the westbound carriageway from tonight until Thursday.

It will be closed between 8pm and 6am, with signed diversion routes in operation.
