High number of ‘zero’ ratings for Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford takeaways - is your favourite listed?

But the majority of eateries in the Wakefield Council area, some 1,065, have the highest five-star rating after their hygiene standards were judged to be “very good”.

Inspection results are published on the council’s Scores on the Doors website.

The site was last updated on Wednesday, although some results can be several months old as restaurants, takeaways and shops await re-inspections to improve their scores.

Latest figures show that 117 Wakefield District establishments were rated as one out of five, or “major improvement necessary”.

A further 69 premises got a 2, which means “improvement necessary”.

Some 227 places were scored as 3, or “generally satisfactory”.

And 368 got a 4 - which means a “good” standard of food hygiene.

A total of 2,460 Wakefield District premises are inspected as part of Scores on the Doors.

Inspections are carried out by Wakefield Council inspectors and published by both the local authority and the Food Standards Agency.

Among the zero-rated premises was Donerz takeaway, on Albion Street, Castleford, following its last inspection on August 11.

The Magnet Hotel, on Pontefract Road, Castleford, was among top-rated establishments after scoring five stars on September 15.

In Wakefield, Pizza King on Hendal Lane got a zero rating after being inspected on August 25.

The Strafford Arms, on the Bull Ring, got five stars after being visited by hygiene inspectors on the same date.

Food outlets which take part in Scores on the Doors are required to display their ratings for customers on a green and black sticker.
