Hundreds visit successful city jobs initiative

Hundreds of people have been given a helping hand on the route to employment, thanks to the Wakefield Works Scheme.

A total of 1,059 jobseekers attended the free sessions, which were run over the course of a month at centres in Hemsworth, Pontefract, Castleford and Wakefield.

The initiative is run by First Choice Recruitment and Jobcentre Plus.

Visitors were given the opportunity to meet with employers and to work with specialist service providers that could help them gain access to any further support needed to enhance their skills and improve their chances of securing a job.

Sue Soroczan, from Jobcentre Plus, said: “Wakefield Works is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when we create opportunities to bring business and job seekers together.

“We have heard some wonderful stories from customers who have found work as a result of this initiative previously, and we are sure that this year will be no different.”

Wakefield Works brings job seekers and employers together face-to-face and gives those attending the opportunity to secure advice, work-based placements or longer-term employment.

Andy Turner, managing director of First Choice Recruitment, said: “When you look back to where we started and to what Wakefield Works has become it really is remarkable.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the businesses that have shown their support, it really does make a huge difference and in some cases can be life changing.”
