And winner Brendan Moody crossed the finish line 33 minutes later.

A 1k mini run followed, with many children choosing to wear fancy dress.

Jamie Strachan, event fundraiser for the hospice, said: “We had a beautiful day for the event and were thrilled to have 2,000 registrations for the day itself. This is the flagship fundraising event for the hospice, and we are on target to raise £65,000 which could fund the hospice for a full week.

“With a lot of patients being with us for less time than this, this could cover their full time with us, making a huge difference to both the patients and their families.

“We wouldn’t be able to raise this much without the incredible support of the community in addition to the sterling efforts of our volunteers and sponsors Beaumont Legal, Arnold Clark Motorstores and PAB Studios.

“We hope everyone had a fantastic day.”

The 10k will return next year on Sunday, March 24.
