Council officers have recommended that plans for the waste plant, which would be just off Wheldon Road, be refused on the ground that it would not “serve an identified need.”

Wakefield Council’s planning and highways committee will also discuss plans to open a drift mine in Crofton, which would generate £10m for the community, an outline application to build up to 40 news homes in Newmillerdam, proposals for a new wind turbine to be built on greenbelt land in Bretton and plans for a new driving range at Lofthouse Hill Golf Club.
