Prosecutor James Gelsthorpe said Hussain, 26, sped through red traffic lights and a give way sign before reaching speeds of 80mph.

Hussain was driving at 50mph when he ran a red light at Tingley roundabout before heading towards Dewsbury.

He hit speeds of 114mph on Dewsbury Road as he overtook an ambulance at the junction with Soothill Lane at Batley.

Father-of-two Hussain then drove the wrong way along a one-way-sreet in Dewsbury before abandoning the car near Daisy Hill. He tried to run away but was caught by police.

Khalid Hussain, mitigating, said his client sped away from police after panicking because he only had a provisional licence and was not insured.

Hussain, of Field Street, Ravensthorpe, admitted dangerous driving.

He was jailed for 16 months and banned from driving for two years.

Recorder Ray Singh told him: “On Dewsbury Road you increased you speed to around 114mph.

“That was not a motorway, that was a dual carriageway. An ambulance was travelling on that road and you decided, at that speed, to overtake an ambulance.”
