Dean Freeman, festival organiser, said: “I’m very excited for Long Division this year - I think back to last summer when it looked like our future might be in trouble and in response I got hundreds of emails and messages of support, not just from local bands and gig goers but from across the country, from artists who had travelled to our city for the first time because of Long Division and couldn’t wait to come back, from record labels, agents and passionate music fans.

“I can’t wait to be amongst people who are that passionate about our city and I invite as many people to join us as possible. “

The festival will kick off on Friday June 10 when acts Yard Wars and Gang of Four perform at Unity Works.

More than 20 different bands will then play at venues across the city on Saturday, including Warehouse 23, Theatre Royal Wakefield, Westgate Chapel and The Orangery.

The festival has this year partnered with Wakefield College to offer free entry to all 16 and 17-year-olds.

Acts will also play sets at Top Five Studios, Neon Workshops, The Art House and The Snooty Fox.

The festival will also feature question and answer sessions with Brix Smith and John Robb.

It will come to a close on June 12, when the Post War Glamour Girls perform at St Austin’s Church during a special live album recording.

This year’s event had been under threat because of funding cuts.

But music fans donated £6,000 to a fundraising page in just nine days to secure its future.

The festival partnered with Music Glue to run an artist application process for acts to put themselves up for consideration, which has resulted in a number of new bands entering the lineup.
